No disrespect, but having been reading the 'tone/volume' discussions over the past months, one thought has come to mind. Gary has been playing very loud for many years. There is every possibility that his hearing is not 100%. That would explain to me the loss of subtlety in his playing, his miserable mood, weird facial expressions when being interviewed and also why he may want to go back to playing rock.

Whenever I saw him live, he was obscenely loud. So his hearing may well have suffered in the last decade. Very sad if that is true.
