Re: The Movies

I just watched the documentary "Waiting for Superman" about education in the United States. WOW, this was totally eye opening and so very sad.  It's by Davis Guggenheim who did It Might Get Loud and An Inconvenient Truth.

I hadn't heard of this film Angela, so i went and looked at a couple of trailers on YouTube.
The UK's education system isn't that great either. But will a film Documentary make a difference ??
I like the work Michael Moore does, and is doing. This would be right up his street.

Re: The Movies

Tinseltown lost another legend today.  Jane Russell, the fantasy full-figured gal of Howard Hughes and pin-up of GIs in WWII has left us at 89.  She starred in one of my favorite westerns, The Tall Men, with Clark Gable and Robert Ryan.  She was one tough broad and I'm going to miss her.

Re: The Movies

Anyone seen the movie MicMacs? Just finished watching it, and it's a fantastic movie! Highly recommended if you want something a little unusual, great story, superb filming.

Re: The Movies

I'm just about to enjoy SCREAM 4:)

Re: The Movies

i watched Due Date recently and i must say that was a waste of one and a half hours of my life.

Re: The Movies

Definitely Due Date was rubbish.  Robert Downey Jr. looked very uncomfortable trying to overcome the sophomoric script.

Surprisingly I fell asleep watching The King's Speech.  Colin Firth was outstanding, but the subject matter of stammering was difficult to watch.

Re: The Movies

king's Speech won the Oscar Award.

It was, but overcoming it was an act of Love and the Power thereof.  I loved it when the Archbishop got dismissed.

Re: The Movies

You're right Jeff.  I think I chose to watch TKS too close to bedtime hence the lack of attention.

A rental of note recently was The Rabbit Hole.  Nicole Kidman gave her best performance imo.

Re: The Movies

Félicitations to 'The Artist' last night. And to Merryl Streep. A shame Gary Oldman didn't pick up the Oscar.

Re: The Movies

Brack, so glad to see you liked Tree of Life.  We finally saw the Descendents last weekend and I loved George Clooney's performance, as well as the spirit of the story.  Didn't watch the Oscars so still don't know who won.
