Re: Amy Winehouse has died

I'm stunned.  I know she had her demons, but I still had hope she'd regain her health and unbelieveable talent.  Just last week I posted about her interpretation of Gershwin's "Someone To Watch Over Me", commenting that it's my favorite.  She reminded me so much of Billie Holiday and sadly Amy has followed the same path.  I curse the **** that got her on drugs.

Re: Amy Winehouse has died

A good friend on mine who doesn't like Amy Winehouse has kindly found a copy of Amy's fine cover of Carole King's "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow" to send to me.  He did this before the breaking news of her death.

Re: Amy Winehouse has died

Sorry, but i thought she peaked with the first album, started to believe her own publicity and thought she was bigger than she was.You don't get go out on stage and mumble your way through gigs incoherently and expect people to fall at your feet, though many did.Respect and thoughts to her father and family, losing a loved one can seem so unfair, but,i can't say i'll lose sleep.Just my two cents.

Come on you Blades!

Extraordinary, another one becomes a member of the "27 Club".

I wasn't a fan but I recognise she had talent. Just a terrible waste.

Re: Amy Winehouse has died

I bought her first album the day I first heard her voice on the radio.... and then once she found fame, - car crash waiting to happen.

Of course so very very sad, - but cannot help but think that given the amount of hard work it requires to get to and then stay at the top, (she certainly had the talent) she really, really blew it.

When in Brazil at the end of last year massive billboards were up with her face announcing the imminent arrival for a few gigs, - my family and friends over there were a bit surprised that my wife and I just shook our heads in negativity as they had only heard the positive news about her. I fear that playing locations that had not previously heard the negative side; South America and Eastern Europe was to be her last chance of picking up a career that had so nearly gone, - then with her too drunk to sing in Eastern Europe she blew it for the very last time, and perhaps it was then just only a matter of time.... So sad.

If anybody has any doubt about the talent she had:

Re: Amy Winehouse has died

Its sad to hear of her death. It did not shock me given her publicized battles with substance abuse. Its a shame a talent wasted like some others before her.The examples have been there before ,but doesn't mean someone can control their demons. So RIP and condolances to all who liked her as an artist and of course any one in her life.

Like everyone has said, very sad news, ..... but not unexpected !
The "27 club" has claims another.

No doubt, Amy will now knock Adele off her #1 spot!
RIP!

Re: Amy Winehouse has died

To end with 27.
That's so sad and such a waste.

RIP Amy.

Re: Amy Winehouse has died

I believe there is some kind of ingrained, implanted, or whatever, human checkpoint, mile age marker, whatever you want to call it, in one's start of their 28th year of being alive.  I believe it is there and almost everyone, if they think about it (or are living it right now) know (knew) at some point, can feel (felt) at some point, there is an unavoidable end to all this grand life, regardless of one's style living it.  Some consciously, some unconsciously, decide it is enough then.  Maybe quit their marriage, job, education, their caring altogether, etc...
27 is young.  But it is also old.  Hopefully, and it is my sincerest hope and most emotional wish, Amy dear, that you are at true peace now.  smile Yes, a smile. While quite sad.  sad

Re: Amy Winehouse has died

Like many I would imagine I saw the breaking news yesterday and yet it didn't register a ripple of surprise.

It was like....finally. Even when I told my daughter, who was a fan, she was matter of fact. It was almost...expected.

Her inate talent had afforded her many chances to overcome her difficulties. The help, I am sure, was available from family and friends, but the will or strength to do it just wasn't there.

If she had lived, the voice and talent would have ebbed away and she would been only a sad echo to what might have been. (I wouldn't dream of comparing but friends of mine that caught a show by Whitney Houston last year were saddened at the parody of a performance she was able to give.)

Now, AW will attain the immortality given to those who seem to pass in these circumstances. Perhaps in some obscene way it was pre-ordained. Her choices in many aspects of her life seem destined to bring her to this sad end.

Musically it is a complete waste, but I won't miss the pathetic soap opera her life had become and the complete waste of newsprint it generated.

Totally agree. Sad indeed. But she did plant the seed for singers such as Adele and Duffy. I hope that's her legacy. I also agree with Rocket. Hendrix, Joplin to name a few...all gone at 27.    I hate wasted lives. Sorry for those that love her. I wish them peace.     Cathy

Re: Amy Winehouse has died

Been hearing a lot of Amy's songs on the radio while I've been driving today. Love Is A Losing Game really tugged at the heartstrings even on a good day, even more sad to hear it today. May her demons now finally leave her to rest in peace.

That is nice to hear Brack. Maybe some good will come from this senseless demise. The article states she was in good voice. It should be a nice duet with Tony.
