Topic: Taking the Hit lyrics

hey i don't know what it sounds like but this part

Hey it’s my problem, I’m not blaming you;
And I wasn’t love, you’re just passing through.
And I won’t complain, your kiss wasn’t calm,
Something has moved you, you’re moving on.

I am not sure about the kiss wasn't calm part to me, any opinions on this?
thanks
Jane
edited to add: what i mean is it doesn't sound like he sings "calm" but i don't know what it is

Re: Taking the Hit lyrics

I always thought that it was "I was in love, you're just passing through"? That makes more sense to me anyway.

"And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make"

Re: Taking the Hit lyrics

I always thought it went like this:

"'Hey, it's my problem
I'm not blamin' you
I was in love, you're just passin' through
I won't complain
Your kiss was a con
Something else moved you, you're movin' on'"

I'll have to listen to it again, though, alone.  There is usually a little kid's voice drowning Joe out whenever that song is on.

TAKIN' THE HIT

Yes I’m takin’ the hit, payin’ the price;
Sometimes in love the ending ain’t nice.
Just layin’ me down, (need help here),
I’m crying all night, yes I’m takin’ the hit.

Hey it’s my problem, I’m not blaming you;
And I wasn’t love, you’re just passing through.
And I won’t complain, your kiss wasn’t calm,
Something has moved you, you’re moving on.

I’m feelin’ so bad just to think about you.
You’re not coming back there’s nothin’ I can do.

‘Cuz I’m takin’ the hit, payin’ the price;
Sometimes in love the ending ain’t nice.
Just layin’ me down, (need help here),
I’m crying all night, yes I’m takin’ the hit.

(Lead Break)

I lie to myself, someday I won’t care,
Each day I wake up and you’re still there.
I’m hiding the truth, from people I see,
Know something’s wrong and it’s killin’ me.

I’m feeling so bad just to think about you,
You’re not coming back there’s nothin’ I can do.

Yes I’m takin’ the hit, payin’ the price;
Sometimes in love the ending ain’t nice.
Just layin’ me down, (need help here),
I’m crying all night, yes I’m takin’ the hit.

Re: Taking the Hit lyrics

She got the lyrics from there the first time. I think Melissa is correct.

"And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make"

Re: Taking the Hit lyrics

I also think Melissa is correct.. and if not they should be that.

"You jump in front of my car when you.. you know all the time.. ninety miles an hour girl is the.. speed I drive.. "

Re: Taking the Hit lyrics

hey thanks all, yeah the fansite is where I got what I pasted. those are fan submitted lyrics as Joe has not graced us with official ones. of course live lyrics can change or be sung different at different times.
anyway anyone seeing Joe at a show and doesn't have a question for him, please remember I always appreciate if you copy some of these lyrics questions down and ask him in person if you feel like it and get the chance to ask him.
thanks
Jane

Re: Taking the Hit lyrics

Jane:

I am not 100% sure of the lyrics on this one, but I count it as an honor to meet Mike Himilstein, who co-wtote this song with Joe, while at one of the Vegas shows with Joanie, Joan, Tara and some others in the JBB Posse.
Mike is credited on "Asking Around for You" on the new album. I think this is another classic that will be played for many years to come.

Re: Taking the Hit lyrics

Here's the way I hear it:

TAKING THE HIT

I'm TAKING THE HIT
Paying the price
Sometime in love
The ending aint nice
It's layin' me down
I'm dyin' a bit
I'm cryin' all night
I'm TAKING THE HIT

Hey it's my problem
I'm not blamin' you
I was in love
You were just passin' through
I won't even complain
Your kiss was a con
When something else moved you
You just moved on

But I'm feeling so bad just thinkin' bout you
You're not comin' back and there's nothin' I can do

Repeat Chorus

Now I tell myself
Someday I won't care
I wake up each day
Somehow it's still there
I try hiding the truth
From the people I see
But they know something's wrong
And it's killing me

But I'm feeling so bad just thinkin' bout you
You're not comin' back and there's nothin' I can do

Re: Taking the Hit lyrics

Thank you, I'll give those a test drive and let you know what I think!

I always heard "you kiss was a call", but "your kiss was a con" makes so much more sense...and it rhymes. Thanks Melissa.

Re: Taking the Hit lyrics

ok this is how i hear it, the studio version that i have on SILT.
I am interested in yakyickleman's version as i am not sure how someone can hear it that way in certain places, unlesss its a live version or perhaps even the official copyrighted version or the way it was originally written? smile and the official lyrics were sung different in the studio take??????

Yes I’m takin’ the hit,

Hey it’s my problem,
I’m not blaming you;
And (or "now") that wasn't love,
you’re just passing through.
And I won’t complain,
your kiss was a con
Something else moved you,
you’re moving on.

I’m feelin’ so bad just to think about you.
You’re not coming back there’s nothin’ I can do.

I’m crying all night,

Now i tell myslef,
someday I won’t care,
Each day I wake up
and you’re still there.
I’m hiding the truth,
from people I see,
Know something’s wrong

of course if someone gives me different lyrics i can hear something a new way, like what my brain first tells me can be way changed once i consider it a different way that didn't occour to me but based on my mind and considering the other postings, it sounds like the above to me, the studio version

anyone thinks something else or gets the official word,... please let me know, i appreciate all the input
thanks
