Topic: Cool movies with blues soundtrack

Hi everybody,

Just wanted to know if anybody has a sugestion on this.
Recently saw and bought the movie: "Black snake moan".
Real cool movie with Samuel.L. Jackson.
Like the music on this movie a lot.
Besides blues also liked "oh brother where art thou? "
Think that when a movie has a good sountrack, even makes the movie better.
So if anybody has a sugestion/ tip,let me know.

Re: Cool movies with blues soundtrack

Not a movie per se, but the first three series of the Soprano's often had some really cool blues songs playing as the soundtrack.

Re: Cool movies with blues soundtrack

Er...Crossroads (the one with the Coca-Cola Kid and Steve Vai).

Re: Cool movies with blues soundtrack

Black Snake Moan does have one killer soundtrack doesnt it?  Didn't know ol Sammy could sing/play some blues.  I'd like to get my hands on that Gibby he played too.

I dig the son house interview to kick it off.  That guy was a trip!

Re: Cool movies with blues soundtrack

yeah i too really dug black snake moan.  what a bizarre idea for a movie.  worked well though and with all the crap hes in i love it when samuel l gets to showcase his talents in a real film.  that was really him playing too which is just insane.  somehow that just impressed me so much more than the dude playing johnny cash.

Re: Cool movies with blues soundtrack

Samuel L. was on the Letterman Show pimpin' the movie and said he took a crash course in guitar from Felicia Collins of the Late Show Band and played and sang a tune with the band that night. Once again Justin Timberlake did a better job acting than he does singing IMO.

Oddly enough, Major League II. Check out the soundtrack, you'll see. Oh, and From Dusk Till Dawn.

thanks. you know i don't think i have listened to the whole cd ever. or seen the movie yet. i asked in the other thread if anyone could describe the scenes where Joe's songs were pl;aying but i dodn't notice an answer. will see it one day myself eventually

It actually is quite a good CD. I like all the songs on it. Taj Mahal, Muddy Waters, Delbert McClinton (who doesn't get much attention on this forum, but is great http://delbert.com/recordings.htm) and who doesn't love Louis Prima??? http://www.louisprima.com/

Re: Cool movies with blues soundtrack

'Heaven's Prisoners', a sort of film noir set in New Orleans with Alec Baldwin, Eric Roberts and Teri Hatcher, has a great blues soundtrack, which is much better than the movie itself, which is watchable but certainly not a classic.

Some of the songs heard are :

"Twenty Ton Weight" -The Hoax

"Baby Bee" -Kenny Neal

"Red House" -Buddy Guy

"I Ain't Gonna Suffer No More" -John Lee Hooker

"Good Moanin' Blues" -Walter "Shakey" Horton

"The Thrill Is Gone"- B.B. King

"Don't Answer The Door(Pt 1 and 2) -B.B. King

"The Things (That) I Used To Do" -Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble

"Good Morning Little School Girl" - Junior Wells

"Born Under A Bad Sign" - Albert King

Great soundtrack that if you're looking for a good blues compilation, this is a really good one.

Re: Cool movies with blues soundtrack

For me -Crossroads- too.

Great movie and I know Joe likes it too. Made a copy for him and gave it to him in Bochum.
If I remember well he saw it when he was a boy and it impressed him then.

Re: Cool movies with blues soundtrack

There isn't really a song that stands out,but throughout the movie Midnight Run there is I dunno maybe blues slide and pickin'. Oh has anyone seen if Crossroads is on a DVD? I still can only find it on VHS. They look at you funny when they say, "yeah we got it" then hand you that Britney Spears movie by the same name. (didn't like the soundtrack The 4 times I watched it!!!!)
